    Released in , The Germ was the last album by the original incarnation of Victim's Family before their (temporary, as it turned out) breakup. Four records and eight years into the Bay Area trio's career, The Germ is fairly far removed from the band's hardcore roots; songs like "I Pissed On a Tree" and "Mind You" are closer to the tripped-out indie psychedelia of Screaming Trees or Meat.

    Just a couple months ago I stumbled onto "Voltage and Violets" at a used CD shop in Detroit -- a recording I had despaired of ever seeing again. All their albums are tasty, but "The Germ" is the essential one. The post-VF album by Saturn's Flea Collar (Larry, Ralph, and a different drummer) is also superfun/5(3).

    Victims Family is a hardcore punk band formed in in Santa Rosa, California, by the bass guitarist Larry Boothroyd and the guitarist and vocalist Ralph Spight. Devon VrMeer completed the trio as drummer. Their sound blended punk, heavy metal and jazz, making them difficult to categorize into a single genre.
